During the recent Intermediate Level PBs course I found myself considering what the soundtrack to PBs could be? I like to play music while setting up, packing away and during individual or group activities. And on more than one occasion I’ve found myself listening to the words on some of the tracks and marvelling at how disempowering some lyrics are – after all, if I needed someone to ‘make me feel like a natural woman’ how frustrating might that be!

‘Tails’ from the training room
It ‘s been a busy few weeks on the training front with Foundation Level PBs courses in Hemel and Bedford and a 4 day Intermediate Level course in Stevenage. Also looking forward to the first PBs course, at the beginnning of next month, which forms part of the University of Northampton’s Early Childhood Studies Degree course and another ‘Baby It’s You’ day at a local Children’s Centre. And, with so many training sessions,
So what are the key messages……?
This week I attended a workshop that I had been invited to, along with a range of local authority representatives, to identify the key messages for parents regarding Baby Brain development. I must admit to initially feeling like a bit of an ‘imposter’ as I was there in a voluntary capacity having spent the last 19 years working for another local authority. I also found it very hard to keep quiet especially after the opening introductions when I discovered at least one other
Serious work can be done while you’re having fun!
Just a quick post to say thank you to Fiona & Jess for a wonderful day of ‘plerking’*. I had planned to deliver one of my Baby It’s You! courses today, but instead spent the time sharing and ‘troubling’ ideas with two great network people. (The courses are going ahead, but on 3 other dates at local children’s centres).
I’d also like to thank Christina, a new network buddy, who is passionate about promoting respectful relationships between babies and adults. And, thanks to Christina, I have discovered the work of Pennie Brownlee and her publication ‘Dance with me in the Heart’. It was a truly magical moment to see in print so many ideas that not only fit beautifully with Protective Behaviours, but also the work that I’m currently involved with as part of my Baby It’s You! project. So, it’s full steam ahead as I look to include more about Protective Behaviours from a baby’s perspective in future courses.

What a week!
Wow, can’t believe it’s Friday already – that’s a whole week without teacher’s pay & conditions! I’ve delivered 3 training sessions and have got lots of new ideas, one of which I feel really excited about as it looks at how Protective Behaviours works for babies. I’ll be adding more details later, so watch this space!
